Tournai’s UNESCO district encompasses both the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the belfry—both listed as World Heritage Sites. This neighborhood has recently undergone revitalization efforts that have transformed its public spaces, established a new visual coherence, and created welcoming areas for social interaction. Pedestrians are once again central to the design of circulation spaces. The quality of these developments enhances the neighborhood, showcases its most prestigious landmarks, and breathes new life into areas whose appeal had been fading.

To boost urban appeal and highlight Tournai’s economic and tourism potential through the revitalization of the cathedral district, the Carré Janson hub will dedicate its multifunctional spaces and teams to technological innovation and the stimulation of art and creativity.

As a showcase for innovation, Carré Janson will become one of the city’s defining landmarks, forming part of a broader regeneration strategy: modernizing urban planning, integrating smart infrastructure, establishing a center for expression and creation, enhancing the value of Notre-Dame Cathedral, and supporting citizen empowerment through modern tools for education, sharing, exchange, and training.

Under the consortium led by Tank Architectes, reciproque was entrusted with the exhibition design and scenography of the future sensory and immersive visitor experience.

The opening of Carré Janson is scheduled for 2025.
