Inaugurated in 1976, thirty years after the closure of the Ronchamp coal mines, the Marcel Maulini Mining Museum is part of a participatory approach and a vision for local development focused on the future and creativity. The humanist act of collecting and preserving memories—initiated by Dr. Maulini, a pioneer of occupational medicine and a friend of the arts—echoes a period of profound change in how society perceives the world. Ronchamp, navigating the sensitive transition into its “post-mining” era, embodies this transformation in a distinctive way.

In 2022, the City of Ronchamp appointed the consortium Doucerain Lièvre Delziani to renovate the building and modernize its museum experience.

reciproque was tasked with developing the program for the visitor journey. This journey unfolds over three thematic floors, focusing on the Territory, the Mine, and the Town. A single continuous display case—housing the entire collection—runs through each level; it serves as the museum’s backbone, connecting the spaces and ensuring the continuity of the tangible heritage. The exhibition platforms themselves are dedicated to experience and interaction.

reciproque’s team is responsible for defining the content (including documentary and iconographic research, copyright clearance, writing and translation of texts) and oversees the audiovisual and multimedia production, managing the creation and implementation of interactive and audiovisual installations throughout the permanent exhibition.
