The Departmental Archives were established by the law of 5 Brumaire Year V (1796) to preserve the archives from the Ancien Régime and the revolutionary administrations pertaining to the Charente department.
Located in Angoulême, the archives are housed across two preservation sites: the main building, inaugurated in 1969, and an annex that opened in 2000. The institution also includes a research library, founded in 1886, which holds over 15,000 volumes.

With a dual identity as both an administrative service and a heritage institution, the Departmental Archives of Charente reflect the richness of their mission: 16 linear kilometers of documents preserved and eight centuries of stored history.

The Archives management team sought to redesign the online portal providing access to their catalogs and resources. reciproque supported the project by assisting in the functional, ergonomic, and technical evolution of the website, as well as in operational project scoping.

The mission was carried out in four phases:

  • Assessment of the existing website
  • Introduction to best web practices and current standards in design and technology
  • Gathering and formalizing expectations, constraints, and requirements from stakeholders
  • Assistance in drafting the specifications and tender documents for the development of the new website
