Historial Charles de Gaulle
Renovation studies and redesign of the permanent exhibition

When it opened in 2008, the Historial Charles de Gaulle was considered one of the most innovative museum experiences of its time, showcasing audiovisual and sound archives, photographs, and historian interviews with a strong immaterial dimension.
After 11 years of operation, the scenographic installations had deteriorated and become outdated in light of technological advances. The Musée de l’Armée decided to renovate the exhibition and update all audiovisual and multimedia equipment to restore the appeal of this major and spectacular space.
For this project, the Musée de l’Armée called on a multidisciplinary project management team led by the economic interest group Relab.
reciproque was tasked with redesigning the audiovisual and multimedia mediation systems, harmonizing the graphic and multimedia interface design, updating content, and overseeing and coordinating the project as a whole.

Labeyrie & Associés handled the audiovisual engineering, designing the overall multimedia systems and equipment, including lighting design, and interfacing with all technical stakeholders (fire safety systems, low-voltage and high-voltage infrastructure).
Marion Golmard was responsible for designing the new scenography and revamping the exhibition path, including signage, lighting, and new display furniture.
The goals of the renovation are to restore visibility to the Historial within Les Invalides, strengthen its connection with the adjacent 2,800 m² permanent exhibition, renew the exhibition’s innovative character, enhance the visitor experience in terms of comfort, interactivity, and content clarity, and improve the durability, flexibility, and usability of all installations.
