Design and development of the official reference website on Marc Chagall
Founded in 2019 to promote and preserve the work and legacy of the artist Marc Chagall, the Association des Amis de Marc Chagall is primarily dedicated to the dissemination and cataloging of his œuvre. To this end, it is producing the official catalogue raisonné of Marc Chagall, in collaboration with the Marc Chagall Committee and the Marc and Ida Chagall Archives — offering a comprehensive view of the artist’s work and his experimental techniques.
Launched in March 2023, the official website marcchagall.com is dedicated to the artist and to enhancing public access to and understanding of his work. As the Association’s first large-scale digital initiative, the website presents an in-depth overview of Marc Chagall’s creations, allowing audiences to explore the work of one of the 20th century’s most influential artists.

Commissioned by the Association and developed in close collaboration with its team, reciproque designed and built the official website.
The site includes the first installment of the artist’s catalogue raisonné, and offers users the opportunity to explore his work through thematic entries, material and color palettes, and a virtual visit to his studio. This initial release focuses on sculptures created between 1952 and 1983, with a second installment dedicated to ceramics forthcoming.
Connected to the Association’s collection management system, the website provides smooth navigation and user-friendly research tools, accessible to both specialists and the general public.
The site is notable for the scientific rigor of its content: standardized metadata (CIDOC-CRM, Dublin Core), an exhaustive bibliography, detailed conservation histories, IIIF image viewing, and precise source citations. Each catalogue entry is signed and timestamped, ensuring traceability of updates. This high standard of scholarship makes the website a benchmark for artist platforms in terms of reliability and methodology.
The platform becomes the central gateway into the world of a major artist, combining academic excellence with an optimal user experience.
