Through a collection that is unique in the world, the Figurine Museum traces the history of the figurine, from its manufacturing techniques to its uses, via the realms of the imagination. Opened in 1984, it has established itself as the first major museum dedicated to the world of historical figurines.

In 2026, the exhibition layout was completely redesigned to meet the public’s changing expectations whilst incorporating contemporary standards of conservation and visitor engagement.

reciproque has designed and created four digital installations integrated into the permanent exhibition:

  • Visitors are invited to take their place at the heart of a model populated by real, bespoke figurines. Inspired by the principles of optical theatre, this installation allows visitors to be integrated in real time on the scale of the scene depicted.
  • This intimate experience allows visitors to explore the spectacular 20 m² model of the Battle of Waterloo. Using very high-definition photographs and original animations, the installation reveals the movements of the troops, the key moments of the battle and the main protagonists of 18 June 1815. The content can be viewed using augmented reality glasses specially developed to enhance the viewing experience of the model.
  • To discover the craft of figurine-making, visitors – whether on their own or with their families – are invited to interact with an engaging film combining hand-drawn illustrations, animations and interactive content. This installation highlights the skills, techniques and tools specific to this precision craft.
  • A smart photobooth transforms visitors into personalised figurines, allowing them to take home an original souvenir of their visit.
